There is a big hole-in-the-wall grocery store called Kelly's Corner which is on Maunakea Street just after N. Kukui Street heading makai. They have a small parking lot. The store is packed with everything and anything. They even have dried abalone in jars. I was told that they sell really ono peanuts that are walnut (?) flavored in jars that you weigh out to purchase. However, when I asked the clerk about it, he looked at me like I was nuts and said they didn't have that kind of stuff.
They also sell fresh produce outside (but didn't look that fresh to me, lol) and I did feel like I was the foreigner there.
I know where they're at? At all the Vietnamese restaurants, they use it for condiments. I ate at Que Huong in Chinatown today, no shortage of the sauces......aha.
Aunty, so funny your story. I don't go to Chinatown anymore, but next time Wendell goes I'll tag along and suggest we check out Kelly's Corner. I'll make sure to ask for their walnut-tasting peanuts. LOL.
