According to author Sheila Sarhangi in her awesome book Honolulu Then and Now (see my previous Old Hawaii post) it's one of two cannons reportedly taken from Fort Honolulu (Fort Honolulu?) which were used by post office visitors as horse-hitching posts!!
I was just looking at the same book at the collector show. It's amazing how some buildings are still around and in good shape too. Cool you spotted the cannon while out on your shoot.

Shun-Wah, it was kinda funny 'cause I didn't spot it until I was right next to it. It surprised me.
I think the one roaming free with the green hat is the horse. The one in purple must be the rider.
