Vietnamese iced coffee is so ono, me and CQ decided to try and make our own. I went to the Asian Market on Beretania and picked up the coffee, condensed milk and a coffee filter. The filter was about $5.
First you pour the condensed milk into your coffee cup. I guess the amount depends on how sweet and creamy you want it . . . about a spoonful or two? Place the filter on top of the cup and pour in 1 to 2 tsp. of the coffee.
Screw on the little lid to kinda press the coffee down.
Pour in a little hot water just enough to moisten the coffee grounds.
Wait for about 30 seconds. Pour in the rest of the water. You kinda have to do it in increments cause it takes awhile for the water to seep through. It comes out nice and strong which is perfect . . . because it gets diluted after you pour it over some ice. Soooo refreshing.
btw, do you have a favorite instant coffee? i've tried dis and dat and i haven't found anything that really impresses me. (yeah, i know; we're talking about instant coffee... but i'm so lazy!)
Sounds like something I would do, Mmiissee. I like to improvise.
Erick, you never cease to amaze me.
Rand, I don't really have a favorite instant coffee, but if you'll check out Erick's recent blog on Chinatown, he has a picture of a cat. The cat is lying on some packages of Thai instant coffee that I like.
