I know they came over from the old country, worked under horrible conditions but never really complained.  Makes you wonder how bad it was back home. I never even went in there the other time I visited.  When I look at the pictures I wonder about my mom&amp;#39;s dad who was actually bound for Brazil, but jumped ship when it stopped here. These pictures are amazing, all a little part of our history.  My mother had a midwife for me when I was born, 7 months after Pearl Harbor. It was a very dark room, the windows all covered with black-out curtains and a single light bulb hanging from the ceiling, completely covered except for a tiny light showing through (so I&amp;#39;ve been told).
