Metal Platter

My friend asked me to photograph this brass/copper platter for him, and I thought it was so beautiful that I wanted to share it with you. The plate is not my friend's, and he doesn't know what it says.

I wonder how it was made, and I wonder if its rich patina was achieved by the passage of time.

I've never seen anything like it before.

It deserved more than my ghetto setup.

I could read most of it but asked Satoshi the parts that I couldn’t.
The front of the plate says “”fudoshin” naikakusoridaijin miki takeo” means “stay the course” prime minister miki takeo”
Back of the plate says “zotei zaidanhojin zennihon kendodojo renmei” means present from japan kendo dojo foundation”

Is it Copper? Or some kind of metal? I bet the metal was melted and was poured into a hand carved mold.
