Must be Wahiawa, because lychee needs a lot of water and coolness. It grows well in Nuuanu too. My parents had two lychee trees in their yard and it was so sweet, but we eventually had to sell the house. 😢 So, even though I crave it, it is so difficult for me to pay for lychee. LOL. But, I've been blessed with generous neighbors who share their harvest with my family.
We have neighbors who have gigantic trees. Past several years, even though they had lychee, those dang green parrots ate ALL before they even ripened. I think this year, because there were bumper crops everywhere, the parrots didn't completely strip the trees. Our neighbors had to pick them a little green just to get a start on the parrots. V
holy crap! Dr J gave me a big bag last month too, he wanted to trim his huge tree. He ended up with a crapload of lychee. had lychee coming out of my ears!
V, those parrots!! Awhile back I went to take pictures at the bon dance across Central Union Church and saw the parrots returning to the big tree at dusk. Had millions!!

Not my favorite. Not sure why.
Here's a question, as I don't know better. Why is the lychee soaking in water? If that's just water. -lance
Lychee costs $2.99 a pound in central NJ Asian market two days ago.
Wow, Hawaii is expensive.
