A Hit and A Miss

Me and da sistahs went to Max's of Manila for lunch this past weekend.

This Buko Pandan ($4.95) was a major hit . . . soooooo refreshing. It's made with young coconut mixed with pandan leaf gelatin and tapioca with coconut ice cream and rice flakes. Ono!!

This Classic Pork Sisig ($10.95) was a miss. I doubt we'd ever order "pork cheeks" again. The taste was actually good (vinegar marinated), but the texture was just too strange for us. It made a "glick" "glick" sound when you chewed on it . . . kinda creepy.

Anthony Bourdain said Pork Sisiq will be the next big Filapino dish to hit the U.S. He said they serve it in the bars of Manila with rice and a soft boil egg over it; it's a classic. I've had Silit (pig's ear), it does have a hard chewy texture, serve with vinegar. Gota try the dessert you had. Salamat Po.

I believe there are pigs ears in that sisig. I can see them. I haven't tried a good sisig. I went to this one place in the PI that had good reviews but it wasn't good in my opinion. I'd like to know Bourdain's recommendation for sisig. I love buko pandan!
