Sagohachi Pickling Base - Part 3

Here's the eggplant tsukemono. It's getting dumped on rubbish day. My taste buds were ruined for hours after tasting just one. Soooo bitter.  I didn't even swallow . . . I quickly spit it out.

It's probably the eggplant and not the pickling base.

Lose money.

What a bummer. Our dad used to make a tsukemono with eggplant using dry mustard, shoyu and chili pepper, but for the life of me, I cannot reproduce it (that's what I get for not paying attention, and he's gone so I can't ask him). So much of what our parents did are lost for good bc I was too stupid to learn from them when they were able to do those things.

Cannot all be winnahs, right? I give you credit though - you show the losers. Me, I hide them and don't tell people about them, mooohaaahaaahaaa!

Ouch! I'm not a huge eggplant fan so I guess I wouldn't have tried this. Art certainly would have though.

Ohhh, too bad yah, Lorna. I think Wendell's mom used to make an eggplant one with dry mustard too, but I totally wasn't interested in learning back then either.

Welcome, Cloudia.

For real, Kat.

Hahahahaha, funny, Aunty!

I think I give up with eggplant, Kay.

Sorry that did not work out Jalna. Eggplant is really hard to figure out to eat. Because it's texture is so hard and it's so tasteless!

Maybe you can try this on a full size eggplant. Because when you slice, it will be much larger rounds.

My neighbor told me that he fries his eggplant slices in oil, in a pan on the stove. And then sprinkles parmesan cheese over it. He calls it eggplant parmesan.

I think I would also add shredded cheese, I love pepper jack, for added yummie gooey flavor!

Here is another idea for eggplant. And this recipe looks awesome!
