HAPPY NEW YEAR, PEOPLES!!!!!

All last month during my break I thought and thought, debated and debated. What was I gonna do with this blog? Quit? Again? I think I "quit" about 3 times already.  But really . . . how interesting could I make it? My life is not THAT interesting. Well, except for the time the bee got stuck in my pant's pocket. Or the time I went to Burger King instead of McDonalds by mistake. Or the time Damn Rabbit ate my beloved lemon plants. Except for stuff like that, my life is mostly mundane.

After much thought, here's what I decided.

No. 1: Never mind if I'm boring. Luckily, you're not forced to read my blog.

No. 2: I will focus on the boring and call my 2016 blog The Year of the Boring. I will try to post at least one photo a day from my boring life. And hopefully, I will still have some not-so-boring recipes that Wendell might discover. And if some not-so-boring subject comes my way, I'll share that too. And  . . . let's not forget . . . only-kinda-boring GIVEAWAYS!!  Howzdat idea? Boring? Yah.

And so . . . for Day 1 of The Year of the Boring . . . my fried mochi with shoyu/sugar which I made yesterday. I couldn't wait.

Jalna, blog for yourself and enjoy the journey.

You want to take breaks, take breaks.

Whatever you post, up to you.

Happy New Year! (love the mochi shot!)

Keep going Jalna! Because I'm just one boring haole dude and I love your Blog!!

And you could also ask for Blog topic suggestions when you get tired.

Here is my first idea. Take an all day drive around Oahu with your camera. Stop anywhere and everywhere that catches your eye. Get out, walk around and start taking pics of the people and places. "Feel" each community with your sharp eye!

Lot's of people, little kids playing and laughing, good grindz, ocean/nature scenic pics, architecture, etc!

Call it, "A day in the life of Oahu"....!

Carry on!

Thanks Kat!!!!

Here is another idea Jalna.

"Water for Life" ....on Oahu.

Several years ago I took the tour in the Halawa Shaft Board of Water Supply tunnel. It's very interesting! It goes down deep at an angle. You ride in a very small tram car on rails. It takes you to the underground fresh water aquifer that supplies most of Honolulu's water. It just looks like a small pond, but it goes very deep.

You can read about this and others at this link.

http://www.boardofwatersupply.com/cssweb/display.cfm?sid=1084

So my other new idea for you is to do some tourist type excursions, take your awesome pics, and explain from a local kine perspective!

Another idea.....

If you know someone with a Military I.D. You can drive up to Schofield Barracks. And then you can drive over the Kolekole Pass! You can take totally awesome view pics along the way. And tell the story of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Most people have never seen this awesome historic pass!

I love this video of the pass!

Jalna, I love your blog because it's unpretentious and honest. You have a truly unique voice among a turgid sea of self-absorbed, fake look-at-me-I'm-special! blogs that I can't stand. Please keep on doing what you are doing, I look forward to your posts.

j: ya know I'll always be here no matter what. When you don't post I come here daily anyway to read all the other bloggers you list. Some of 'em have high security so I no ken post on them but I read 'em whenever they have sumthin' fo' say. I am the definiton of lazy and I don't do nuthin' all day except walk the dogs and read and watch t.v. So I literally have nothing to do cuz I do nothing, by choice. So I enjoy reading people who do all kine stuff even if it's mundane. Outta my room you take me along with you and I see stuff I wouldn't know about. So big mahalos on that. Looking forward to your "boring" New Year -N

So funny you should post this, you must show it to Noreen. We were talking about mochi the other day and she said she's only had it grilled with shoyu/sugar. I told her I only eat it fried in a little bit of oil, with shoyu and sugar...it tastes waaay better that way (I did mention to her that it's hella fattening that way but hey, it's new years!). She thought i was nuts! I sent her a pic on new years day after I fried some up and she was said she could see the oil in my shoyu :). I wonder if she tried it yet..??

I don't know what my boring life would be without your not boring blog. I'm so bored right now that I can't wait for your next not boring post!! Your blog is unique. I used to go through several blogs but honestly if you go through my history, yours is the only one I read these days! You make me feel like I've known you for years and I learn so much from your blog. Thank you for not attempting to quit for the fourth time!

jalna said...

Les, I ate choke, choke, choke FRIED ones yesterday!

Hahahahahahaha!!!!! Thank you, Susan. I am so glad that we "met" via this blog. I feel as if we're old friends too.

Hi Jalna, I'm so glad I feel good enough to visit your blog...I was sick with cold since Christmas...actually, I still have the cold but I feel much better.
I don't think your blog is boring at all. I find your blog very charming and I love your sense of humor. Don't quit!

The mochi looks very oishiso-. I wish I have that right now.

Wishing you a very happy New Year!

jalna said...

Awwww . . .thank you, Dean.

I love that saying, Myko!! Thank you for sharing. I'll try to remember it on days when I start feeling insecure.

Oh no, Akemi. Glad you're feeling better. Happy New Year to you and your family too!!

How DARE you say that your life is boring? It's filled with family, friends, activities, food, humor and love! All your readers can sense that, and that's what keeps bringing us back, day after day. I look forward to reading what you've been up to, because compared to what I do, you're rocking!

Your so funny Jalna. Your blog is never boring to me. I enjoy reading every post, even though I don't leave a comment.
I never thought about shoyu & sugar for fried mochi...Interesting. Looks very good.
I always like mines with kinako or kinako/sugar.

jalna said...

Awww Lorna, thanks for giving me incentive to keep going!

Thank you, Mmiissee!! I love kinako/sugar too, but shoyu/sugar is my fav!!

Kay said...

My cousin, Arnold was just talking about fried mochi in sugar and shoyu, but I said I preferred kinako mochi. Now I'm thinking I should try this because your photo makes it look so good. I've never had it that way.

Boring? You are never, ever boring. I agree with my cousin, Lorna.
