Sprout

Me and Geri went to Sprout Sandwich Shop in Kaimuki yesterday.

It's on Koko Head Avenue next to the crack seed store. The same crack seed store that I saw John Travolta in front of a long time ago . . . but that's another story . . .

They had a nice selection, and were kinda busy.

The lemonade was $4 . . . very refreshing.

We shared a The Duke ($9.50). It was very, very yummy, and for some reason, very watery too.  It kept dripping and made a mess all over my hands and my plate.

After our lunch we walked across the street to The Calico Cat. And just like Honolulu Aunty said, the lady there was so nice . . . unlike one of the ladies at the other fabric store in Kaimuki . . . ahem. Geri bought some cute Minion fabric. She plans to make a blanket with it.

On the way there we passed by Verde Kaimuki and saw this sign.

And this is the menu that was posted outside of Hale Ohuna, a "modern Hawaiian noodle bar".

We ended up in Kapahulu at Shimazu Shave Ice. For the record, that's not my shave ice.

I want to show you what I got at a rummage sale that me and Geri went to earlier in the day.

Sooooo cute yah! 2 bucks!

Darn! I can't see your last photo from the rummage sale. I've been to Shimazu and it's great but I NEVER bought one that size. Wow! That's brain freeze for sure. My favorite restaurant in Kaimuki used to be Maguroya for their misoyaki butterfish teishoku. That Sprout place sounds great!

OMG, that maneko box is so cute!

Also, "Sprout" menu is so busy, I wouldn't know where to start! Haha, but nice lettering.

You can't see the video, Kay? Ok. I'll try put it on YouTube and repost. Maybe it'll work out better. I've never been to Maguroya. I keep saying I should try it, but I still haven't.

He's so adorable yah, Mich! Everything looks good on that menu. If that guy by our working place had that spread, I think I'd try everything.

Such a cute bank! And what a fun day in Kaimuki! Carol at the Calico Cat is so friendly - and when her mother was alive, it was even more friendly.

Kaimuki is going through major change. I just went to a funeral service in the soon to open lounge where the old Pottery Steakhouse used to be (next to NAPA). It was WOW! with carved walls and mood lighting under an open sky. It will fulfill a need for a hot night spot in the old town.

Thanks for sharing your fun full day!

Did sprout grow into or takeover the bead store? Talk about sassy sales people. The owner was one stuck up Chinese lady! And I even knew her...lol very rude!

I was wondering how sprout was, finally made it to Kaimuki Superette on Friday, I liked it! I can't believe you scored that maneki neko thing, that is soooooo cute. Mama Kuba loves it too, she made me play it for her a few times :). Hey how did you sneak that pic in Shimazu shave ice? Didn't the lady snap at you the last time??

Very fun thread Jalna! You won't believe it....but I have been going to the Koko Head Ave. crack seed store since I was 9 years old! I have always loved Kaimuki! It's always been old style Honolulu, before Honolulu grew up!

Andrew Zimmern at Bizarre Foods did a show on the Koko Head crack seed store. And interviewed the owner. I'm trying to find it to share. But I can't find it right now.

Aunty, for real Kaimuki is changing so much. I forgot about Pottery Steakhouse.

Funny Anon. I don't think it took over the bead store, but not sure.

Nobody snapped at me, Les. Just had all these signs with rules on um at the original store, and one of um was NO PICTURES.

I just saw that episode, Mark. I thought it was so cool. I love that crack seed store. Had lots of people going there buying Icee the day we were there.

too cute!

Mmiissee, I saw it on amazon, but it's not $2.00: http://www.amazon.com/Itazura-Coin-Bank-American-Shorthair/dp/B003F25VZY/ref=pd_sim_21_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=0HVH6RQYARG5X0FE3578&dpID=412nXZHDrvL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_

I scored, Kat. I think nobody picked it up because they didn't know what it was. It didn't have any batteries in it, so it wasn't working.

Way too cute! $2? Cheap entertainment!

Akemi, I just love to give the kitty a coin and watch him pop out.

Isn't it, Kay! I'm thinking of taking it to work and having him earn some money. LOL!
