Tag-Team Catch

My son Landon is getting back into diving again so he's been bringing home quite a lot of fish lately.  The papio below weighed in at just over 10 pounds, and it took two people to snag.

Landon says that while he was poking around in some holes, he could hear his friend Spencer yelling to him, "Landon!  Landon!"  Landon turned to see that Spencer had speared the papio, but it was barely hanging on to the spear.  Seconds later the fish wiggled itself free and started swimming away.  Landon quickly swam after it but it remained juuuuust out of his range, until it stopped for a second just before going over a ridge.  And that's when Landon let loose his spear and caught it.

I cook that fish for my dad a lot. It's almost $7 lb here! How do you cook it?

Me too, Mich. I'm scared of being in the ocean.

Woulda made a good gyutaku, Didi.

Spencer took it home, N.

Nice fish yah, Kat.

Sorry Akemi, no after picture.

$7/pound, Susan! Wow that's a lot. Spencer kept the fish but I asked Wendell how he woulda prepared it and he said that he woulda filleted it and breaded and fried it. Landon's been catching a lot of reef fish too. I've been giving them to my Micronesian coworker. Do you guys eat reef fish?

I know right, and it comes from the PI. Is the reef fish parrot fish that your son is catching? We eat that, it's pretty good.

Really yah, Erick!

Landon did spear a nice-sized parrot fish, Susan. I think he gave that one to his friend. I emailed you a picture of the "reef fish" that I'm talking about. There's a variety. We don't eat them, but the Micronesians love um.
