Forbidden Rice

One of my favorite things about taking pictures of Ailey at girlfriend Fay's house is the breakfasts that Fay makes.  This last time she included some forbidden rice with our sausages and eggs.  I had never heard of it before, and I really liked its nutty flavor.  She had mixed it with some white and brown rice.  Fay said she found the rice at Kale's Natural Foods in Hawaii Kai.

What is in it that it is called "Forbidden Rice".

Thanks Erick!

Betty, it seems that back in the day, only the emperor was allowed to eat this rice and it was "forbidden" to everyone else.
