Galaxy Mixed Martial Arts Presents Worlds Collide

Surprised? Me too. I am so not into mixed martial arts, but I AM so into taking pictures. So when good friend Mano Nguyen of Galaxy Mixed Martial Arts asked me to help him take pictures at his event, I said, "Sure."

Especially since I was gonna get one of these Media Passes. I love these press passes cause I can act like I'm a real photographer.
I had to check in at the back door and I got the pass from these lovely ladies.
As soon as I got in I went to check out the arena floor. I was curious to see what the cage looked like. It was really neat being able to walk anywhere I wanted. I felt so special.
Then I went back outside to catch the people coming in.
I loved this girl's shoes. I actually said, "Can I take a picture of your shoes?"
I was suprised to see that a lot of the fans were not really hard core mixed martial arts fans but just regular people . . .
except for these Japanese tourists.
It was almost showtime so I went back into the arena.
I half expected that I might not be able to handle the violence and that I would end up leaving early. That didn't happen. First of all I could tell just by looking at the fighters that they were all very, very fit. Then, the rounds are short, either 3 minutes or 5 minutes, and there are only 3 rounds each. It actually proved to be very exciting. And as you can see, I loved using the arena lighting to photograph the fighters' bodies.

Great fight shots! Was it really dark there? Also, OMG..I can't believe you got a shot of my co-worker in one of your people shots..what is the chance of that?

Hahaha Rand, if I ever, ever get to shoot Victoria Secret models, I'll invite you so you can work on your shooting skills also!

Thanks Erick. The low light did prove challenging.

Actually Shun Wah, it kinda doesn't surprise me anymore when people say they know somebody in one of my shots. I'm beginning to realize just how small this island is.

Jalna, you are the bomb sister. Thanks for supporting Galaxy! Yes, Jalna got Chris Templo, an HMSA employee by day, mixed martial artist by night :) She also caught Zack Pang, an HPD Officer (bald buff guy tattoo) and many great up and coming fighters of Galaxy. Jalna, you know you'll always have an invitation with us as long as you want. Just looking through your photos makes me hungry :) Thanks again!
